by Heather I’m crying as I write this. Leonard Nimoy passed away today at the age of 83. He leaves behind his wife Susan, two children, Adam and Julie, biological grandchildren and thousands of honorary grandchildren. Back in January 2014, Leonard Nimoy tweeted: Any here want to make me their honorary grandfather consider it done. LLAP Thousands of fans took him up on it including at least one of our own Geek Girls. He was an accomplished actor, director, photographer and poet. He has a distinctive voice that is instantly recognized and made him perfect for the extensive amount of voice over work that he has done for documentaries, animation and video games. His love of photography started early in life and continued into the present. His photography from “The Full Body Project” is hanging in multiple galleries. For those as fanatic about researching all things Leonard Nimoy as I am, his music is even a gift. I was a ST TNG kid, but started watching TOS when I was in college. The portrayal of Spock by Leonard Nimoy struck something in me. Through that character I learned to be stoic and lock away the emotional havoc inside me. He taught me the importance of logic, and how it should be the foundation for thought and behavior.
Leonard Nimoy was Spock for many of us geeks. It is extraordinary that for a man best known for depicting a character that was incapable of displaying human emotion, should feel so personal and real in spite of being a total stranger. Leonard Nimoy made Spock seem real, and made him mean something to all of us. This speaks volumes about how fantastic an actor Leonard Nimoy was. Leonard Nimoy lived long and prospered, and he will continue to live in on in all of our memories. He has been, and always shall be, our friend.
Rest In Peace. Sad news today out of Los Angeles: Leonard Nimoy has passed away at the age of 83. This talented actor, writer, and poet had a successful career spanning more than five decades - but he will always be best known as Star Trek's original Mr. Spock.
We salute you, Mr. Spock. You will never be forgotten. The internet is ablaze today with the news that Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Deckard in the sequel to 1982's Blade Runner. Ridley Scott, who directed the original film, will not be directing the sequel but will be on board as producer. Set in 2019, Blade Runner depicted life in Los Angeles in a dark, dystopian era. The film is a loose adaptation of Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Set in 2019, Blade Runner depicted life in Los Angeles in a dark, dystopian era. Sources report that upon reading the script for the Blade Runner sequel, Judd Apatow and Paul Reubens announced today they are starting production on a new Peewee Herman movie for Netflix! Pee Wee's Big Holiday was written by Reubens and Paul Rust (Comedy Bang! Bang!) with Apatow producing. John Lee, whose directing credits include episodes of Broad City and Inside Amy Schumer, will helm the project in his feature film debut. “Judd and I dreamt up this movie four years ago. The world was much different back then - Netflix was waiting by the mailbox for red envelopes to arrive. I’ve changed all that. The future is here. Get used to it. Bow tie is the new black,” Pee-Wee Herman (aka Reubens) said in a statement. Few details about the film's plot have been revealed, though Netflix said the movie kicks off with “a fateful meeting” between Pee-Wee and a “mysterious stranger,” which inspires Pee-Wee “to take his first-ever holiday in this epic story of friendship and destiny.”
by Jen This week's episode of Gotham was intense, to say the least. Let's walk through it in pictures: There's a gang of bank robbers in town, and one of them decides to mix it up with a red hood - could this be the beginnings of the illustrious (or notorious) Red Hood Gang? The original gang of robbers meets their end in various ways throughout the episode, but the hood seems to have taken on a life of its own... Selina and Ivy are still staying with Barbara, who attempts to convince Selina that her physical beauty can be used as a weapon. You can see the wheels turning in Cat's head (perhaps the seeds of a future seductive costume have been planted?) but she brilliantly replies, "What good has that done you?" Penguin and Butch seem to be playing nicely together, in an effort to save Oswald's from certain doom. Butch helps Penguin refresh the club's liquor supply when Marcone attempts to cut him off, and when Penguin asks if he misses Fish Mooney, he merely replies that she got what she deserved. Speaking of Fish, she got her meeting with the people upstairs - and that took a shocking turn that I don't think anyone expected! Let's just say that when she does get back to Gotham, Fish will be sporting some new eyewear. And finally, Alfred and Master Bruce have a guest at Wayne Manor this week - an old friend of Alfred's, who seems to be running from his ghosts. We do get a small glimpse into Alfred's past, but this visit is less than benign - in the end, we find Bruce and Jim Gordon at Alfred's bedside in the hospital, and the board of Wayne Enterprises is plotting against young Bruce. Five episodes remain in the first season of Gotham. I can't wait to see what the coming weeks will bring!
Yesterday, Zac Snyder posted the first official DC photo of Jason Mamoa (of Stargate Atlantis and Game of Thrones fame) as one bad-ass looking Aquaman.
by Jen Tonight's episode began with a circus brawl - and a healthy dose of foreshadowing. This circus is not just the scene of a clown-vs.-acrobat brawl over the affections of an snake lady; it's also the backstory for both a future villain (who we meet in this episode) and a future sidekick. But we begin with Jim Gordon and Lee Tompkins on a date. Meanwhile, Fish Mooney wants more than to be the leader of her dark, strange prison; she wants to get out. She rallies the imprisoned masses and convinces them of her plan, and by the end of the episode she gets what she wants - a meeting with the "Manager", whoever is the mastermind behind what she correctly assumes is some sort of organ farm. Poor Jim Gordon - not even his love life can proceed smoothly in Gotham. Nothing like finding a body and arresting almost an entire circus to slow down the pace of romance! Back in Gotham, Penguin is making a mess of his new club. He lets his mother perform, and is merciless when a member of the audience dares to boo. Don Falcone is unhappy with his management, and sends him a present via Victor Zsasz - a reprogrammed Butch, who has experience running a successful club and is guaranteed to do whatever Penguin says. I can hardly wait to see how this plays out!
