by Jen From It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown to Toy Story of Terror, I look forward to these specials every year - but The Simpsons’ annual Treehouse of Horror is my very favorite of all! On Sunday 10/26 from noon to midnight, FXX will be airing all of The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror episodes. I literally could not be more excited. I may have even called my television provider to change my package to include the FXX channel just for this occasion. The Walking Dead will have to wait til Monday this week, because I’ll be marathoning The Simpsons on Sunday!
I asked some of my fellow GG Inc. writers what they love to watch on television duringthe Halloween season:

by Lauren Dear Once, It's time for us to have 'the talk.' You've always been a Disney property (you are on ABC after all) but you had managed in the past to put enough of a twist on the characters that it was still interesting - Rumpelstiltskin is also the 'Beast' and the 'Crocodile,' Peter Pan is the bad guy - you had my attention... This season, however, you have jumped the proverbial shark. A straight up rip of all things Frozen! Belle and Rumple dancing in their 'movie costumes' to the Beauty and the Beast theme music?! The Sorcerer's Apprentice hat and walking broom! Ugh. I watch a lot of TV and space on my DVR is prime real estate. I'm not breaking up with you yet Once, but you are on notice. For the moment, this is why I'm still watching at all... Believe me, Colin O'Donoghue is more than enough reason to keep me tuning in, but I did break up with the Vampire Diaries last season despite of this:
by Jen If you’re a fan of horror novels, you need to be reading Joe Hill. I stumbled upon Hill’s book Horns quite by accident in the library, and it did not disappoint. Integrating elements of Gothic fantasy in a modern horror setting, Horns tells the tale of Ig Parrish, who wakes up the morning after his girlfriend’s horrific murder to find he has sprouted horns on his head (that no one else can see) and that people are suddenly eager to share the details of their misdeeds with him - whether he wants to hear them or not.
In the last few days there have been several announcements of bringing back some 80's classic cartoons for the modern generation. The musical fantasy reimagines Jem amid the current hyperlinked social media era in a story of a small-town girl going from underground video sensation to global superstar with her three sisters. Jon M. Chu directed from Ryan Landels’ script with Aubrey Peeples as the lead. Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko, Ryan Guzman, Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis also star. - Variety Yesterday, it was reported that Netflix was re-re-re booting The Care Bears with the exclusive Care Bears and Cousins series slated for 2016.
They look cute and fluffy, but the voice acting will be key to make this work... by Heather
This show is also a chance to see several actors in what I consider their breakout show. We have slightly neurotic matriarch Ruth (Frances Conroy of American Horror Story), uptight and closeted David (Michael C. Hall of Dexter) AKA my favorite character, laid back brother Nate (Peter Krause of Parenthood), sister Claire (Lauren Ambrose of Torchwood), Brenda as Nate's girlfriend (Rachel Griffiths of Brothers & Sisters) and Jeremy Sisto (Suburgatory) as her bi-polar brother, Billy.

by Lauren Early this week, I saw a commercial from a new CBS sitcom about a family from Boston. Ordinarily, this would not be news... except for when I squealed like a 14-year-old girl when I recognized that Joey McIntyre from New Kids on the Block was going to be in it. I am 41-year-old married woman but in a single second I was involuntarily reduced to a Teen Beat reading girly-girl. It was like a acid flashback. Fortunately, my husband wasn't around to witness the swooning. (I also may have rewound it once or twice and set my DVR to record...)
by Jen In 1990, I was a geeky sixteen year old girl living in a house with only one television set, and I rarely got to choose what we watched - so when my good friend started raving about this fantastic new show called Twin Peaks, I was intrigued but completely unable to indulge my curiosity.
But then I heard the news this week - David Lynch is planning more episodes of Twin Peaks! Suddenly all I can think about it how my friend raved about the original all those years ago. Off to Netflix I went, and imagine my glee when I found all 30 episodes of the original series just waiting for my perusal! I immediately devoured the pilot (all 90 minutes of it), and now every minute I can spare is dedicated to learning more about the bizarre town of Twin Peaks - and what exactly did happen to the homecoming queen? The good news is I have some time to complete my Twin Peaks binge, as the new episodes are slated to air on Showtime in 2016 - just in time to fulfill Laura Palmer’s creepy prophecy that she would 'see us all again in 25 years.'
And unlike the original series, which left fans hanging, Lynch and Showtime have promised that this run will provide us with a satisfying conclusion to the mysteries of Twin Peaks! |
