In 1990, I was a geeky sixteen year old girl living in a house with only one television set, and I rarely got to choose what we watched - so when my good friend started raving about this fantastic new show called Twin Peaks, I was intrigued but completely unable to indulge my curiosity.
My dad had a fairly geeky streak, but we bonded over shows like Star Trek: TNG - he had no interest in a weird pseudo-intellectual crime show, even if it did star Kyle MacLachlan of Dune fame. When the movie Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me came out in 1992, said friend dragged me to the theater to see it with her – and my primary reaction was confusion, as I had no frame of reference for it. I shrugged it off and didn’t think much about it after that. |
But then I heard the news this week - David Lynch is planning more episodes of Twin Peaks! Suddenly all I can think about it how my friend raved about the original all those years ago.
Off to Netflix I went, and imagine my glee when I found all 30 episodes of the original series just waiting for my perusal! I immediately devoured the pilot (all 90 minutes of it), and now every minute I can spare is dedicated to learning more about the bizarre town of Twin Peaks - and what exactly did happen to the homecoming queen?

The good news is I have some time to complete my Twin Peaks binge, as the new episodes are slated to air on Showtime in 2016 - just in time to fulfill Laura Palmer’s creepy prophecy that she would 'see us all again in 25 years.'
And unlike the original series, which left fans hanging, Lynch and Showtime have promised that this run will provide us with a satisfying conclusion to the mysteries of Twin Peaks!
