If you’re a fan of horror novels, you need to be reading Joe Hill.
I stumbled upon Hill’s book Horns quite by accident in the library, and it did not disappoint. Integrating elements of Gothic fantasy in a modern horror setting, Horns tells the tale of Ig Parrish, who wakes up the morning after his girlfriend’s horrific murder to find he has sprouted horns on his head (that no one else can see) and that people are suddenly eager to share the details of their misdeeds with him - whether he wants to hear them or not.
It was only after I finished this marvelous book, I learned that Hill is in fact Joseph Hillstrom King - son of the legendary horror author Stephen King. While he does bear a physical resemblance to his famous father, Hill is a remarkable author in his own right. His writings include novels, short stories, and graphic novels - most notably the eerie and astonishing Locke & Key series, illustrated by Gabriel Rodriguez and set to be made into a trilogy of films by Universal Studios. |
