This week’s Gotham was all about Foreshadowing (yes, with a capital F - it was that obvious). While I enjoyed the Balloonman - a masked avenger who had illegally purchased several weather balloons and utilized them to seek retribution on corrupt individuals in Gotham - I (and the episode) could have done without the explicit exposition.
When Balloonman was captured, he actually stated that other masked vigilantes will come after him if the corruption in Gotham’s police and government continues - well, duh, isn’t that what this is all about?!
Anyhow, I’m still enjoying the noir feel of Gotham overall. This week, while the cops were busy chasing Balloonman and Fish Mooney (in another fabulous dress) was plotting her vengeance on Marcone, Oswald Cobblepot (aka Penguin) hobbled back into town.
Apparently he just can’t stay away from Gotham, so he attempts to go incognito and gets a job at a restaurant where, it turns out, mob bosses (Marcone’s competition) regularly meet. Who knew the Penguin could wash dishes? He’s just full of surprises!
We also find out more about Gordon’s fiancé, Barbara, and her relationship with Major Crimes Detective Montoya. It would appear they both have things to hide, though Montoya doesn’t seem to be able to stay away from Barbara. I wonder if Gordon knows her secrets? If not, what will he do when he finds out?
Oh, and Selena Kyle manages to escape custody, which should surprise absolutely no one.
We do see a bit of young Bruce Wayne in this episode - and Alfred continues to be a bit more rough around the edges than I’d like, but perhaps that is what shaped Bruce’s personality in this universe. Only time will tell.
