Some Thoughts About the SHIELD Spin-Off Series

Late last week there were rumors and tons of speculation when it was announced that ABC was developing a spin-off series from AoS. I hesitate to report things at the rumor phase, and I was hoping more details would be revealed soon, and now some have. Maybe... or it's just more rumor to see how people react.
Today several sources are reporting that the new series would star Mockingbird and her ex-hubby Lance Hunter (Adrian Palicki and Nick Blood) - featuring their Mr & Mrs Smith style dysfunctional spy relationship. No other details about the possible plot are out there right now.

So, here is my beef. I actually really like Agents of SHIELD. I think it found its stride after the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier last year, and has some of my favorite characters on TV. Fitzsimmons are adorkable, Clark Gregg as Coulson is so damned funny, and Ming-Na's Agent May is just the most kick-ass lady ever on network TV this side of Alias.

The addition of Bobbi Morse (a major SHIELD character from the comics) and Lance Hunter have been a great new dynamic this season. I'd hate to pull them out of AoS already - they were just settling in to the chemistry of the show. Also, why spin-off ANOTHER AoS spy show?

There is a much more obvious choice that would make a show with a different shape all together with the Inhumans. I know they are getting movie in 2019, so that may not be the best choice, but there is a storyline in the comics where Quake (Skye/Daisy) leads a team of powered individuals for Fury called the "Secret Warriors" - which seems to fit in more with the current schism in the AoS universe.

Maybe it's just me. I am totally digging all things Marvel right now. (Don't even get me started on Netflix's Daredevil - LOVE!!!!!) I think they are doing everything right creating a cohesive and connected Universe that spans network  TV, online streaming and feature films. I'm just not sure one more Agents of SHIELD series is the right move here.

You CAN have too much of a good thing...
Also, since we know that the next episodes will lead directly into Avengers: Age of Ultron in the next two weeks, so the whole game could change again and all this speculation will go right out the window. But - 'In Marvel, I Trust'... for now.
