Xfinity has a preview of the premiere episode of ABC's new fantasy drama, Forever. Since I've been home sick the past few days, I've seen it.

My assessment: meh.

It is formula TV at its finest. The cast is good, but I couldn't stop thinking, "I've seen this all before."

1/4 Captain Jack Harkness minus charisma +
1/4 The Highlander minus swords +
1/4 Sherlock Homes minus Watson +
1/4 shows that have done this plot and failed (Amsterdam & Moonlight) =
Forever

Every 'twist' was predictable. Every character a cliche. Female cop love interest, seriously? Even the 'big reveal' <spoilers> that Judd Hirsch's character was found and raised from a child in WWII by the main character is straight out of Highlander. They even run an antique shop for goodness sake!

Ioan Gruffudd is an admirable lead, but I don't think his appeal alone can save this show from a swift mid-season cancellation.

Disagree! Those are all plot pieces that are British or dated, which means they are finally ready for prime time television. Even LOST was a compilation of many 70s/80s sci fi shows. Is there really anything new under the sun? The show plot is enjoyable and the dialogueis is believable.
