As the year comes to a close, it is our duty as geeks with a blog to count down our favorite geek moments of the year, so here you go - enjoy! (In no particular order...)
Stephen Colbert interviewing Smaug the Magnificent.
This video says it all.

The Return of Wierd Al Yankovic.
The release of his newest album "Mandatory Fun" was a throwback to my youth and a delight. His daily video premieres leading up to the album release were an ingeious way to introduce himself to a new generation of tech-savy fans. Our favorite: Word Crimes.

Also, if this isn't a nerdy highlight I don't know what is (this whole series of Epic Rap Battles are awesome BTW - if you want to fall down the YouTube rabbit hole for a while...)

Stephen Amell being not just a hero on TV, or on Facebook, but in real life!

Using his 3 million+ Facebook army, Stephen started the year raising $25,000+ in one week for the family of a little girl with a brain tumor (Prayers for Sophie) and ended the year by teaming up with Represent to sell (fan designed) t-shirts that raised over $1.3 million dollars for the charity Fuck Cancer.

Also, Arrow is still the best comic hero on TV, maybe ever and we couldn't be happier with this year's spin-off The Flash!

Everything Marvel
From the non-stop action of Winter Soldier and the subsequent revitalization of Agents of SHIELD - to blowing the roof off the Universe with Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel shows no signs of slowing down. January premieres the long-awaited Agent Carter and they've announced four new Netflix mini-series and a massive plan for their movie franchises all the way out to 2019! AND EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED - (stupid DC...)

Also, the GotG soundtrack was the must-have this year and has us all Hooked on a Feelin' and jamming to Cherry Bomb in our cars with the windows down - weather permitting :)

A woman becomes Thor in the comics.

This exciting turn leaves us with many questions... Will we see this incarnation of the Norse god on the big screen at some point?  And who would play her if this came to pass?

Gotham premieres, and it is awesome.
Serious noir-meets-crime-drama, with so many backstory teasers sure to entice any geek!  We can't wait for this one to start up again in January.

Five Nights at Freddy's 1 and 2
These indie point-and-click horror game is chock full of jump scares!  Can you make it past Night 5?  Have you seen the Golden Freddy?

Super Smash Bros for 3DS and WiiU was insane, awesome and insanely awesome.

2014 was WiiU's year with Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors.
Other video games we loved in 2014 are South Park: Stick of Truth, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Kentucky Route Zero Pt. III (Dungeon Dame's Game of the Year) and Hatoful Boyfriend (Pigeon Dating...  You know you want to try it.)
Dungeon Dame's Game of the Year!

Power to the People!
2014 saw the rise of crowd funded projects. Cool games, web series, toys and movies - most famously the film resurrection of everyone's favorite sassy detective, Veronica Mars.

Cards Against Humanity
This year saw the release of the 5th expansion pack, as well as well as the 90s Nostalgia Pack! Very un-PC fun will ensue...

The newest Dresden Book is the best since Changes.
Skin Game is the fifteenth book in Jim Butcher’s fantastic Dresden Files series.  You should read them all, possibly multiple times.

Epic trailers for things we are sooooo looking forward to next year...
But that is a story for tomorrow. ;)

What are your favorite geeky moments or things from 2014?
Sound off in the comments!
