"In every generation there is a chosen one... she alone will stand against the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer."

Today’s featured lady is known for being the kickass teenager that saved the world from ultimate evil - and still looked fabulous.  Sarah Michelle Gellar played the ground-breaking Buffy on Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series from 1997-2003. This iconic character - "the one girl in all the world with the strength and skill to hunt and kill vampires" - would go on to inspire a generation of girls to be empowered, and had such a social impact, that there are courses taught in colleges about it!

A little trivia: Sarah has a black belt in Tae Kwan Do, and is passionate about fitness. Per IMDB, she currently takes kickboxing, boxing, street fighting and gymnastics.  It makes me wonder if she was always interested in this, or did playing Buffy, who weekly decimated some big evil, influence her fitness regimen?

Binge-Watch Wednesdays - Veronica Mars

Binge-Watch Wednesdays focuses on new and old TV shows that we are rabidly devouring at an alarming rate.

I'm not sure why I didn't watch Veronica Mars when it originally ran from 2004-2007. Maybe it was because it was on the UPN/CW or because I thought it was just another high school teeny-bopper drama.

But earlier this year something amazing happened. Fans brought it back. Using Kickstarter, regular people quickly funded the making of a feature film to revive these beloved characters.

As a student of film & TV, I had to acknowledge the incredible precedent this set for people to choose with their dollars to hold on to the shows they love. Network executives be damned. I felt this was an important thing to support, even though I'd never seen the show.

DVD/Blu-ray movies, books and games debut on Tuesdays, so here's a list of the new geeky items for your media binging pleasure!

This week's feature:
Orphan Black: Season Two
If you haven't already guessed, we here at GG Inc. are HUGE Orphan Black fans. We think it is PATENTLY ABSURD that Tatiana Maslany has been snubbed for an Emmy AGAIN! </rant>

In season 2, the core clones face individual threats to their lives and families - with not a few surprises. Mysteries unravel, revealing more twists, some comedy and drama. New clones mean new personas for the flawless Maslany to slip in and out of as she also reaches new levels of depth and perfection with the clones we've come to love.

It has been officially picked up by the BBC for a 3rd season, so now is the time to catch-up. Also, they have some of the most fun behind-the-scenes spots worth checking out on the Blu-ray extras.

See this week's new book, movies and games after the jump!

Today's honoree is the super amazing,
FELICIA DAY!

I had never heard of Felicia Day until one of my friends suggested we watch Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Somehow I’d missed the latter seasons of Buffy, passed over Eureka, and even arrived late to The Guild party. But once I’d discovered her, I was instantly smitten with the queen of geek girls!

What has Felicia Day not done? She’s worked with the likes of Joss Whedon and Wil Wheaton, wrote and produced the spectacularly funny web series The Guild, and has built up Geek & Sundry into a virtual empire.

4th of July Edition!

As you celebrate the Fourth of July this year, take a moment to remember some of the amazing women involved in the American Revolution.

Did you know that several women served as spies during the war?

Anna “Nancy” Smith Strong was a member of the Culper Spy Ring and used laundry on her clothesline to send coded messages to other spies. Anna is a featured character on AMC's "Turn," a TV drama about the Culper Spy Ring - a show on the top of my patriotic binge watch list for the weekend!

Other great women include, Lydia Darragh who gathered coded British reports and was able to warn George Washington about a surprise attack and Nancy Morgan Hart who actually captured British officers and Torie loyalists and helped defend a fort from attack by the British and Native Americans.

To learn more about these "patriots in petticoats" go to the National Women's History Museum website here: https://www.nwhm.org/online-exhibits/spies/2.htm
