Today we honor the heroes and Geek Girls that have come before us. For our inaugural honoree we have chosen Nichelle Nichols!
| For many of us, she was one of the first kick-butt, sci-fi females we saw on TV and feature films. As Lt. Uhura on the original Star Trek, she broke barriers of color and female empowerment. After Star Trek she worked with NASA to recruit a new generation of astronauts and developed programs with the Smithsonian to get women interested in science. |
