Picking Favorites - Fictional Bands

From The Partridge Family and Josey & The Pussycats to Wyld Stallyns and The Soggy Bottom Boys - television, cartoons and movies have created some awesome and memorable 'fake' musical acts that have some real music chops!

These are our favorites off the top of our heads - what are yours? Who did we miss?

Brooke:
Jem and the Holograms, because Jem is truly, truly, truly outrageous.

The new live-action movie will have to be rockin' to do the band and the hair justice.
Ariyanna: Jem is my pick too!
Lauren:
I'm going to go with The Commitments. I love that movie (and can actually understand their thick accents.)

I still own and listen two the two albums they made from the soundtrack. Nothing like some Dublin Soul....

Meghan:
These guys. Always.

Literally the only album my mum refused to donate to my record collection was the Blues Brothers!

Annie:
The Sex Bob-ombs from Scott Pilgrim V. the World!

Maria:
MTV used to have reruns of the TV show, The Monkees. I loved their music and thought the actors were adorable. I found out later that their songs were written by famous song writers!

Heather:
Aca-scuse me? What about the Barden Bellas?! Not only are they awesome, but who doesn't love Fat Amy?

I can't wait for the Pitch Perfect sequel!
Lindsey:
The Wonders from That Thing You Do.
A classic movie set in my favorite decade. The only thing I love more than the music is the costuming!

Jen:
What! No Love for Spinal Tap?
They are the best metal band that never existed outside a Christopher Guest mockumentary.
When writing their name, don't forget the dotless letter i and the metal umlaut over the n!

Honorable Mention - Steel Dragon from Rockstar

And finally...
Geeky Faux Band Shout-Outs (to keep our GG street cred...)

I like the term fictional bands. It reminds me of talentless but gorgeous looking boy bands of the 90s. Well maybe they aren't really talentless. I am sure they can sing. But when I learned about music post production particularly this pitch shifter that repairs off key and tonal problems, I begin to really lose hope in humanity. Okay, maybe that's too much. Maybe they can dance. That takes practice and you can't really cheat that.
