Kerbal Space Program is a must-buy for any fan of space, NASA, or explosions. The objective of the game is to create a successful space program and/or build the most outlandish rockets you can imagine. Many Kerbals will be sacrificed in the name of science, but that’s OK: those crazy buggers will keep signing up for a chance at becoming a hero (or stuck in orbit). |
A game of this type has the risk of being an intensely dry (space) flight sim, but the charming Kerbals and their minion/rabbid-like cuteness add a human touch to a stuffy, math-based subject. The tutorials are your friend- I quickly found myself very lost when attempting to build my first rocket.
Setting little goals for myself was rewarding-- collecting samples from various sources, creating a rocket with enough power to escape Kerbin (the Kerbal planet), and finally, exploring space. There’s plenty of space to conquer and challenges to overcome. Challenges like a wildly rotating rocket.
This year also featured the new Asteroid Redirect Mission, a collaboration with NASA that allows you to recreate an actual, real-life mission.
If you’re STILL not excited about playing a space program game, even after all my glowing praise, this video should sum up the appeal:
