I’m stretching the definition of “you aren't playing” here, because this title is crazy popular in my social circle for some reason, and I’m 60% certain at least one of them is playing it right now. Nearly all of my friends, coworkers, and random passerby have stopped to inform me of their upcoming crops. Farmville?
No - Banished!
A Simcity-esque strategy game where you help a small group of the titular banished people create a thriving town, you’ll be facing harsh climates, dwindling resources, and the occasional disaster.

Slowly growing your little town is a lot of fun, and it’s easy to get invested in your villagers, especially the ones with the weirdest randomly-generated names (Camera?) Have them farm, barter, and build their way to success, until they run out food in a cold winter and hate you bitterly as they starve in the cold. The details are fun, too: clearly the developer loves beer as much as I do, because you can make multiple types of ale. So, it’s perfect for those who love city-building games and have always wanted to build a tiny Milwaukee.
The game is simple, yet effective. It’s more of a relax-a-thon than anything, so don’t expect any epic wars or political intrigue. Just slowly grow your little ale-drinking village and make sure none of your villagers get stuck on a freezing mountain.
Cheers!
