Last week, we ran a contest to for folks to 'Like' our Facebook page before the launch of this new website. As a prize, two people are receiving their very own GG Inc. Pixel People characters. 

Earlier this week we premiered Arwen's GoT themed icon which she won for promoting our site and being an awesome friend of the site. The actual 100th 'Like' came from Facebook user "April Author Assist."

In our inaugural week, we are giving our contributors a chance to say 'hi' and welcome you all to Geek Girls, Inc.

Today's message is from Star Trek super fan and fitness guru, Heather!

I’m one of the resident Star Trek fanatics.  I randomly quote from ST episodes, movies and books.  My base question when dealing with a problem is “What would Spock do?”  Every Labor Day weekend you will find me at Dragon Con in Atlanta dressed in costumes. It is four days of being with my peeps - bliss. 

One of my favorite things to do is read. There is nothing like curling up with my kindle.  I tend to read sci-fi, fantasy, and romance.  Some of my favorites include Patricia Briggs, Laurell K Hamilton, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Shelly Laurenston and Terry Goodkind.

I also like trying new things. I’m big into fitness right now, but I like it with a geeky twist.  Neila Rey has a site (http://neilarey.com) I've been using with workouts called Superman, Jack Bauer, Archer, and DeadPool that are fantastic!

Want to go white water rafting? I'm there. 

Want to go hiking? Count me in. 

Want to take a road trip? When can we leave? 

Want to go bungee jumping? Ummm...no...I have to draw the line somewhere.

Time to consult your Tobin's Spirit Guide and order some pizza!  Our inner teenagers are totally geeking over the announcement of this new IDW comic crossover between The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Ghostbusters!

 This 4 issue mini-series is set to release in October and will be on our pull-lists for sure! 

On the Colbert Report last night, Marvel's Joe Quesada announced that in the comics, Sam Wilson, AKA The Falcon, will be taking up the mantle of Captain America!

Recently, in the comics, Steve Rogers has lost his super soldier serum abilities and has aged approximately 65 years. Rather than leave the country with out a Cap, his partner Sam takes up the shield and becomes Captain America.

So, in 2 days we have a female Thor and a black Captain America. Is this progress - or pandering diversity to be more 'politically correct?'

I know there’s no such thing as a “real geek girl.” I know that deep down inside, but years of justifying my existence makes me feel like any new endeavor requires some sort of 'Nerd Resume' to prove my street cred. 

1) I was first chair oboe in the band. The OBOE. The only chicks who have me beat for dorkiest instrument were the female tuba players. 

2) I have my original X-men cards from the 80s/90s. I still want to be Jubilee. 

3) I have been introduced to people as, “This is Lindsey, she’s a photon.” 

4)  I wore a batman shirt every week for the entire duration of middle school. Not some cute baby doll tee - a large men’s Adam West Batman shirt that my mom probably burned years later.

The point being: I don’t have the mystical answers to geek feminism, but I have fought my way through this con-filled crazy world, and I might, just might, be able to help lead you to your quest.

You have walked into a darkened room. 

To the right you see a light glowing behind a closed door. Quietly, you open the door revealing a figure that is hunched over a lighted table. A quick glance round the room reveals an assortment of brightly colored fabrics, canvases, an assortment of strange baubles and what appears to be a chest with brightly colored dragon eggs in it sitting on the end of the table closest to you. Cautiously, you take a step further into the room but the figure takes no notice of you, yet. As you approach, you see she is working with a needle in her hand, creating roses from a silken cloth.

This must be the mysterious Mistress of Magic and Countess of Crafting that you have been questing to find. Startled, she looks up at you, as the needle she was sewing with stabs into her finger. A single drop of ruby colored blood wells up from the prick. “Oy!” She cries, then looks at you with a disarming smile. 

Adventurer, what do you do?!... turn to page 86 if you want to to leave the room or turn to page 42 if you want to complete your quest to meet Ariyanna Moon.

Life is one big continuous adventure and it is full of the wonderment of all that we put into it. For me, that includes my love of all things Fantasy and Science Fiction related.
